Black Kitty and Trudy play a lot together. By play, I mean bite each other in the face. It gets rough and there's growling and hissing sometimes. I've tried to get pictures more than once but the action is so frantic that this is as close as I've gotten. This was right beside my feet while I'm working.
This is just a lull in the fight. Trudy is hanging back for a second and is about to pounce on Black Kitty's face. You can see the anticipation in Black Kitty's eyes.

Today I got my new mouse! I didn't realize how spoiled I am by a high resolution mouse. My laptop came with a Razer Copperhead that I liked but the left button died on it and my efforts to fix it were for naught. I used an old Microsoft wireless mouse I had that was decidedly not high resolution.
I researched and found that the one of the best gaming mice was the Logitech G500. I've always had really good luck with Logitech products so I was seriously considering it. While I was mulling it over I found out that Newegg had a $20 rebate on the mouse and that was tempting. Then, I found out there was a coupon that would bring the final price down 60% all together so I had to pull the trigger.
With the small amount I've used it I love it. It fits my hand perfectly and the adjustable weights really make it easy to use. I loaded it up with a mix of the heavy and light weights and then decided on all heavy weights to put in it. I like the heft and the solid feel when I'm moving it around. The scroll wheel being switchable from "clicky" to free wheeling it extremely nice. It's resolution goes up to 5700 DPI which is a bit insane. I've got it about 3000 for regular use and 4000 for in games. My old mouse was 2000 DPI so this is even more precise. The sides are rough enough to give a good grip without being uncomfortable.
I'm very, very happy with the mouse. Here are a couple of pics.
Exposure bracketing takes three pictures in a row. One "normal", one under exposed, and one over exposed. The exposure blend script takes all those pictures and puts them together to try to get something more like what your eye sees.

Black Kitty and Trudy were asleep under my desk and were looking highly cute so I had to take a picture. Trudy's tongue hanging out was really adorable.
We have a stray kitten that's looking for a good home. He's very sweet. Just a couple of days ago I couldn't touch him but you see how he's come around!

I picked up the mystery seed/fruit/nut from the yard and got some more pictures. It was suggested that it was probably a walnut but I don't know after this.
Some measurements. These were a little bit of a challenge. You'll see why.
It's hard to cut and has a very hard center, like a pit. It smells like a peach when you cut it open. I still don't really know what it is but Trudy is convinced it was the latest cat toy in the house. She meowed angrily when I wouldn't let her bat it around very much.
EDIT: We figured it out! It's a pignut hickory. I didn't have any hickory trees around our house when I was growing up so I wasn't familiar with them.

I'm going to apologize right now for the terrible picture! These things keep falling out of a tree in the front yard that is NOT a pecan tree. I don't know what kind of tree it is. Can somebody (Mrs Alice) help identify it from this picture? I can get a better picture of one of these if you want!

Today we went to Joann Fabrics and Crafts at the Shoppes at River Crossing with our friends Ken and Tia. It's opening weekend for the store so it was our first time going. Ken and I also went to Dick's Sporting Goods next door and browsed for a bit. When we came back I took a few shots of Ami and Tia shopping and one that I had hoped would've turned out well but was out of focus. It irks me when I screw up like that. I also took some pictures of some colorful glass bottles that they had.
The sauce was was a pepper sauce that was pretty hot but went with the steak very well. I used to really dislike spicy-hot things but now I love them. I think it's my Papa's influence kicking in later in life.

Today would've been my best friend Michael's 36th birthday. I often wonder what he'd be like today. Where would he live? What would he be doing for a living? Would he be married? Would he have kids? Would we have drifted apart like so many friends do? I'd like to think that we wouldn't have.
I miss Michael every day, not just on his birthday; but I do like to commemorate the day somehow, even if it is just with a blog post.
This picture has a little bit of a story. It was taken with my mom and dad's Minolta X370 over an already exposed roll of film. I'm surprised that these came out at all but I'm very glad that they did.

This is the blog post that almost wasn't! We've got some heavy thunderstorms over us right now so I'm just sneaking this in while I can.
I finally got my order of five rolls of Kodak Ektar in the mail. I've got eight more shots on a black and white roll and then I'm going to start using color. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Trudy got in my chair today and just sat there looking at me. Well, until I tried to take a picture then she looked away of course. I told her if she wanted to sit there and work for me she could go ahead!

I loved the mouse that came with my laptop. It's a Razer Copperhead and it's highly accurate and fits my hand well. There was a problem though. There's a common problem with Razer mice (so it seems) that the buttons start double clicking instead of single clicking. It had been doing that for a few months and I tried to ignore it. Well, today it finally started double clicking EVERY TIME. As you can imagine that's frustrating. No matter how I changed the mouse settings it still did it. It's out of warranty and I had to do something.
I took the mouse apart and cleaned it but that didn't help. I dug around in my stash o' parts and found an old mouse so I took it apart and found that the switches looked to be the exact same as the ones in my gaming mouse.
And... it didn't work. I don't know if it was something I did like getting the board or switch too hot when I was de-soldering or if it's just not the same switch even though it looks exactly the same. It's disheartening. At least I tried! In failure there are lessons. I learned how to use my de-soldering iron and learned that I probably need a new tip for my soldering iron. I also learned that I just plain need some more soldering practice.
Thanks to Ami for taking the majority of the pictures.
This is my everyday blog. It's going to have what's going on in my life as well as pictures I take and other things that are of interest to me. You can contact me at brian dot allen dot godfrey at gmail dot com.
